Hammer Murderer Convicted

MOT hammer murderThe Motril man who killed his wife with a hammer has accepted 18-years’ imprisonment in a pre-trial deal, thus avoiding trial by jury.

The Public Prosecutor had recommended 20 years, whilst the private prosecution lawyer, Francisco Feixas, representing the victim’s family, had recommended 25 years.

The murder, which took place in May 2014, caused much consternation and indignation at the time. Francisco José M.B. and his 60-year-old victim had a divorce hearing arranged for the next day.

He also has to pay out 100,000 euros to the victim’s family.

The woman, his estranged wife, Maria Araceli M.B., died 18 days after the attack from her head injuries; injuries mainly caused by the hammer blow, but also from those received from falling down the stairs with the force of the blow.

The condemned man stayed at the scene of the murder to clean up the area and change his clothes, according to the prosecutor’s report.

However, he later found that she was still breathing, so he also attempted to asphyxiate her with a plastic bag.
