The Almuñécar Town Hall will have to find two-million euros as a result of a court sentence over dodgy urban development schemes.
The Mayor is not a happy bunny because the said dodgy dealings went on under the previous Mayor, Juan Carlos Benavides… and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
You see, between 2003 and 2011 the Town Hall signed around 80 urban development modifications permitting what-turned-out-to-be, illegal changes to the existing Urban Development Plan.
To cut a long story short, the Town Hall approved building projects, received a percentage for social ends, up front… and spent it. These projects never went ahead because the Junta stopped them by taking Almuñécar to court and now the judge has said that the money has to be returned, plus interest, plus court expenses.
This two million is just one of them – remember there were 80 signed.
On top of Benny’s legal legacy, the present Mayor is being sued for nearly 10-million euros over the municipal-market car park…
And just in case you’re in any doubt, when we say that the Town Hall has to pay, that means that you and I have to pay, via our taxes.
