SOS Carmenes del Mar

LHR Carmenes del Mar OnLGood morning.

I’m writing to your paper to make you aware of our plight at 32 Carmenes del Mar, La Herradura.

As you are aware – and I’ve read all your articles about our moving mountain Cerro Gordo… Well it’s still moving.

My partner Linda Walsh owns the aforementioned house and after an inspection of our house last month, the Town Hall in Almuñècar has decided to issue us with an eviction notice.

We must be out of our house by Friday or they’ll come and evict us with the police.

Can you report on our situation as we need all the publicity we can get.

Regards Pat Higgins.

OK, I have just spoken with a colleague from the IDEAL provincial press, asking about the situation. He will be contacting the Mayor – who has been out of action for a while, owing to her husband being hospitalized – to find out if there has been a response from the Central Government or the Junta about funds to carry out emergency work – the Town Hall is virtually broke. He will mention your particular plight and will be calling my back this evening.

The evictions are being applied because the Town Hall, naturally, doesn’t want anybody to be injured or worse, should one of the houses collapse.

My own interpretation is that by ordering evictions they are covering their own arses in the event of a disaster. I would do the same in their situations.

As for what will happen for those out on the street with nowhere else to go, I imagine that there will be alternative, temporary accommodation provided – it would not be the first time that the Town Hall has provided such assistance.

Will update when I know more.
