Almuñécar has approached the Central Government in Madrid and the Junta de Andalucia for funds to put right storm damage caused at the end of last month.
The sum requested is 600,000 euros, which is what the town considers the minimum to repair its coastline; i.e., the breakwater, the hole in the Cotobro road and the damage to the water park back wall facing the sea, amongst other places.
Chiringuito La Barca took a tremendous pounding, or better said, its terrace did, although a lot of sea water also got into the premises as well.
Perhaps the most urgent work is that needed on the Velilla breakwater, which was damaged in a previous gale, broken in this one and will probably not survive another gale of the same intensity.
