Yup, it has come around again and this year marks the 453rd anniversary of the mass destruction of the Spanish Fleet in La Herradura Bay.
Accordingly, on Monday the 19th there will be a commemorative event comprising of several parts.
Starting at 10.00h, the First Councillor for the village, Sr. Joya, will inaugurate an oil painting exhibition entitled, Vela Latina, in the Castle.
After that, the pupils of the Colegio Público Las Gaviotas will be casting flowers into the sea in memory of the 5,000 victims of the shipwreck involving 25 galleys.
This tragic blow to the Spanish navy occurred just 26 years before the Spanish Armada disaster.
Bearing in mind that those 25 galleys were manned by shackled prisoners, not many survived, being dragged down with the sinking vessels.
