Do you want to do something different this August, away from the beach – why not dress up as a caveman and go to Piñar in the north of Granada?
Yes, this forgotten village up above the city of Granada holds a caveman fiesta each year on the first Friday of August, which this year falls on the 7th.
The reason is that they have this series of caves where prehistoric remains were found – along the lines of Las Cuevas de Nerja, but not so big. So they thought, “How can we push the caves as a tourist attraction and bang – before you could say, “pass me another mammoth,” all the village was dressing up in bearskins and carrying clubs – even the local police and Town Hall staff.
It’s different! You don’t need to go up dressed for the occasion, but it might stop you getting eaten by a sabre-tooth tiger.
