Almuñécar has organized a training course for a dozen beach lifeguards to learn how to use rescue dinghies and coping with falling out of them, as well as other points.
The Town Hall says that it is to bring to town into line with recent regulation changes concerning skippering rescue launches.
The course lasts a total of 70 hours, divided into four theory and four practical sessions.
The theory classes cover how to survive falling overboard (10 hours), putting out fires (15 hours) and personal safety & social responsibility (10 hours).
The practical classes cover the same subjects but are held down in the Marina del Este.
Hopefully, the course will include how to distinguish between a couple who are drowning and a couple who are not, even though they’re whipping up a bit of water and noise…
