Sea Anemone Poachers

The Guardia Civil nabbed two lads with 300 kilos of sea anemone that they had fished off Barranco Cambrón in Salobreña.

A patrol from the Seprona branch (environmental police) came across the two young men from Cádiz where the barranco meets the sea. The poachers had scuba tanks for the task.

The Patrol had spotted two people diving off the rocks and immediately suspected that they could be carrying out illegal fishing – the spot is a favourite location for sea anemone (a protected species) poachers.

When the police arrived the two men already had quite a catch – nine buckets of them. As they were still alive, they were returned to the sea – the anemone; not the poachers!
