Emergency services were called to rescue a naked man who managed to get himself stuck at the very top of an open drawbridge.
The incident occurred in Fort Lauderdale in the USA, where an eyewitness said the man had been swimming in the river below. Upon exiting the river, the naked man climbed onto the bridge from the riverbank, so was not spotted by the bridge operator who began to raise the bridge to allow river traffic to pass. The naked man was too far along the bridge to get back and as the gap had become too great to jump, he just hung on.
Our naked hero, described as a local homeless man, ended up over 100ft (over 30 metres) from the ground, sitting on a scorching hot metal perch (roasted plums anyone?)
The bridge could not be lowered as the area where our lightly fried friend was sitting, shakes vigorously when the gears are rotating to bring it down. At first, ladders were used, but they were way to short. So, two brave firefighters scaled the structure and, after putting a towel around the man’s nether regions, put him in a harness and lowered him to the ground.
As a footnote, the bridge actually spends 95 percent of its time raised and although there are large signs at each end warning people not to go onto the structure, this incident was actually the second time someone has been rescued in such a position, according to NBC Miami.
As to what happened to Mr. Sore Plums after reaching the ground – nobody knows.
