Loma de Gato Road Finished

ALM Camino de Almenara OnLWork on the Camino de Almenara – Loma de Gato, in the municipality of Almuñécar has concluded, and is now open to traffic.

It wasn’t just a case of tarmacking the existing lane, because retaining walls had to be built, along with water channels alongside and under the road, informed the Councillor for Public Works, Jose Manuel Fernández.

The Councillor said that the work was held up precisely because of the infrastructure work needed to protect the tarmac surface – just in case anybody might have thought that the reopening was delayed so that it would coincide with the local elections….

The project had a budget of 156,677 euros, financed partially by the Town Hall and partially by the Provincial Council. Local building company, Edificios Atalaya Tropical carried out the work.

The lane in question starts in the Urbanización Citalso, running north for 2.7 kms, over the top of El Gato A-7 tunnel and finishing at the roundabout where the A-7 joins the N-340.

“It was the first 1,670 metres of the lane that had the biggest problems owing to deterioration; potholes and drainage issues,” explained the Councillor.
