The 12th annual lace-makers meet was held on Sunday the 10th in the Majuelo Park in Almuñécar, as planned, with over 300 attendees making the occasion.
The ladies came from all over Andalucia, Cataluña and some even as far afield as France, just to get their lace-making equipment out and compare notes and work.
There was some talk that the fire that took place the previous evening would mean that the event would have to be cancelled but thanks to the municipal workmen, they managed to get it all shipshape again and ready for the big day. Had I known, I would have saved the outlay on petrol and matches…
In fact, not only was it not cancelled, but owing to the good weather, instead of winding down at 15.00h, as envisaged, the event lasted a further three hours.
As for the turnout, it was hoped that the figure would be greater than the 200 of last year, and as we have said above, there were just over 300. Can’t keep the blighters away, it seems…
