Chasing Your Own Car

What do you do when you see somebody driving off in your car? If you’re Antonio Cabezas, you borrow another and give chase.

The 51-year old had parked his car in front of his business in Nerja, but the sound of a car driving off made him look outside, and there was his car… gone!

He jumped into his brother-in-law’s Renault Laguna – after brief exchange along the lines of “Tus llaves del coche?” “Toma”, and shot off in hot pursuit.

It didn’t take him long to get on the tail of his disappearing car near Algarrobo and once behind his Toyota Land Cruiser, stuck with it all the way to Málaga, whilst giving his position to the police (hope his brother-in-law had a hands free device for the mobile…).

Antonio was lucky, because he didn’t know which way the thief would head: Málaga or Motril, but fortunately he chose the right option, caught sight of the car and dropped back one car behind so as not to give his presence away.

Thanks to his efforts, the Guardia Civil (motorbike police) intercepted the car thief, A Moroccan with French citizenship, at the entrance to the Churriana tunnel.

The theft had taken place not long after midday on the Calle Riogordo in the Castillo Alto trading estate in Nerja.
