Bigwigs in hardhats visited the Salobreña castle and after inspecting the works there announced that it should be concluded by June.
The Delegate for the Government, Sandra García, explained that the receding job completion date is the result of “unforeseen archaeological, building and geological circumstances.”
The work being carried out, readers will remember, is mainly urgent work to stabilize the castle walls but also includes archaeological investigations and improved access for tourists.
“This is work to improve the safety of the 40,000 visitors that the site receives, and to make it more interesting for them,” explained, Sra. García.
The Mayor, Gonzalo Fernández, decried the fact that the Central Government had not “put one euro” towards the project, but then again, we have got the elections just around the corner.
