Polish Student Death in Nerja

NRJ drowned poleA 25-year-old Polish student fell into the sea on the 7th from the rocks on Playa de la Torrecilla in Nerja.

The next day a Guardia Civil helicopter spotted a body floating just off the said beach, next to the Balcón de Europa. By the time of the writing of this article, the body will have been retrieved and identified.

On the same evening as the accident, Guardia Civil diving teams (GEAS) from Málaga and Almería had to be withdrawn because of the gale. Also involved in the search were the Salvamar lifeboat and the Helimar rescue helicopter, based in Almería.

As soon as the accident was reported, Guardia Civil policemen equipped with night-vision goggles searched the area from on top of the Balcón in the early hours of the morning, but without any success in spotting the lad.

Rescue operations resumed in daylight on Wednesday (8th) but were cancelled in the afternoon

The lad had been spending a few days on holiday in Nerja with his girlfriend and another couple. Just after midnight they had gone for a stroll when he allegedly climbed over the fence in order to jump onto a rock but fell into the sea five metres below instead.
