Drum, Dance & Rise for Revolution

ALM Womens group1-Billion Rising in Almunecar 2015
One in three women across the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. That’s one billion women and girls.

Every February, we rise – in hundreds of countries across the world – to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on injustice that survivors most often face.

We rise through dance to express joy and community and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.

This year, we are rising for Revolution. www.onebillionrising.org

Almunecar International Women’s Group invite you to join us on Saturday 14th February at 12.00h outside Sabina’s Restaurant.

We will be singing, dancing and drumming in the streets of town, starting in Plaza Rosa and moving on to Plaza de la Constitution, The Mercado, Plaza Kuwait and ending in Plaza Kelibia.

Wear black or dark clothing with a pink, orange or red scarf or sash. We are making placards for everyone to carry. We are still looking for people to help organise percussion and to take photos and video for the event.

On 25th February we are also organising a reading in english of the “Vagina Monologues”, written by Eve Ensler. It will be held in the Centro Paquita Ruiz behind the petrol station starting at 5pm.

We are raising money for the Asociacion de Mujeres Solas “Marisa Sendon” in Almunecar, asking for a 5-euro donation from the audience and readers.

We are still looking for women to read and would like as many as possible to take part. There will be a practise session of the Monologues and parts will be allocated to readers on February 18th at the Centro Paquita Ruiz at 14.00h.
