Trial Backfires on Claimant

SPN Charges Against MP Dropped OnLThe Public Prosecutor has dropped a charge against a conservative MP in Alicante for allegedly striking a British resident. The incident reportedly took place at an animal refuge in San Bartolomé-Orihuela on the 14th of August 2013.

The reason that he dropped the charges was because the majority of the witnesses collaborated the accused, Elisa Díaz’s version.

MP Díaz claimed that she hadn’t slapped Jasmine Mary Lyons but had only put her hand in front of the woman’s mouth so that she wouldn’t cover her in spittle. “I never touched her once,” she insisted.

Sra. Díaz, who is the daughter of the ex-Mayor of Alicante, explained that after an argument over dogs the other woman began shouting and insulting her, literally, ‘in her face.’

The alleged victim, Mrs Lyons, on the other hand claims that she now suffers from partial deafness in her right ear from the blow that she received. Mrs Lyons is charged herself with having struck the MP several times, causing bruises.

Two witnesses backed the MP’s version of the events, stating that she had not touched Mrs Lyons, whilst another witness said that she had been suffering from a hearing problem beforehand.

This witness, a worker at the animal refuge, said that Mrs Lyons had confided to her several days before the incident that her doctor wouldn’t let her work at the animal refuge because it could worsen her hearing defect.

Lastly, on the subject of evidence, a doctor’s reports drawn up for the trial confirmed that Mrs Lyon doesn’t have a ruptured ear drum.

Not only did Mrs Lyon lose her case, but she was also apparently fined 800 euros for the injuries suffered by Sra. Díaz.
