A young man disguised as one of the Three Kings on a parade float, fell four metres to his death when an overhead telephone cable toppled the upper structure of the vehicle. The incident occurred in Níjar, Almería.
The local mayor has proclaimed three days of official mourning for the death of the 20-year old. The man had the misfortune to fall on his head, causing extensive brain injuries, leading to his death after less than 24 hours in intensive care.
The incident took place in front of number eight, Calle Golondrina when the telephone cable snagged on the upper structure; i.e., the throne on which the man was sat.
This is not the first time that an accident of this kind has occurred in recent years – the first victim was lucky – if he can be so described – because the fall resulted in him ending up paralysed from the waist down.
In fact, in the Málaga area last year, a young child was crushed by a passing float when he darted in between the towing vehicle and the float, resulting in one of the wheels going over him.
