Almuñécar Applies for Historic Wall Funds

ALM town walls OnLAlmuñécar, as a settlement, goes back over 3,000 years and is graced with historic monuments, such as the castle, but not all are in good repair.

Anybody who has visited El Parque Botánico El Majuelo will have seen the old town walls, which stand, with difficulty, propped up by metal girders, running up towards the castle. It is this section of muralla (defence walls) that urgently require funds.

With this in mind the Town Hall has approached the Ministerio de Fomento (Ministry of Public Works) to request a grant for this section of Islamic-era wall from the Patrimonio Histórico Español funds.

Seeing as the Town Hall is in the hands of the same party that runs the Central Government, there is a good chance that the funds might be made available. Unfortunately, that’s the way politics work in Spain.
