Regional Government Reacts to Motril Hospital Protest

MOT Santa AnaAfter a protest by staff at Hospital Santa Ana in Motril, a representative of the Regional Health Board, Higinio Almagro, landed in Motril.

He met with union and hospital management to deal exclusively with this complaint.

He started off by praising the dedication of the Emergency Department staff: “I want to make it clear that a quality service is given to those using the Emergency Department; some 70,000 people annually.”

He went on to claim that staff numbers have “remained stable” since 2008 and had even increased, which is a contradiction, but never mind.

Referring to the new changes to health services in Andalucia,; i.e., the Plan de Mejora de las Urgencias Hospitalarias, which was put into service in Motril this summer, he said, “We intend to improve attention to patients and reduce delays.”

To bring that about, he explained the SAS (Regional Health Board) sends a group of experts to each hospital to analyze the new improvements and how best to make them effective.
