Earlier this afternoon a waterspout (a sort of sea tornado) formed just off an Almuñécar beach without coming ashore.
Earlier this morning the same phenomenon also formed several waterspouts in front of Torremolinos which did reach land and devastated a chiringuito and sent two camper vans tumbling along like toys – nobody was in them.
According to the Policía Local the waterspout hit land on Playamarin, Torremolinos, making its way inland, crossing over the Coín road ripping up trees along the way.
It then neared the airport, damaging the gasoline station next to it, before reaching the car rentals Holiday Golf, right next to the airport where it petered out. All told 17 vehicles were damaged.
Waterspouts do not suck up water; they are small and weak rotating columns of air over water and last about 20 minutes. They are still impressive to behold, mind.
