A 32-year-old, painter was crushed by a lift whilst working in the lift shaft. The accident occurred yesterday, Saturday the 22nd at 16.30h in Alcalá la Real, Jaén.
The man, Rubén P.G. was at the 4th-floor level when the lift began to ascending, pushing him to the top of the shaft with no way to escape. It is still not known how the lift became activated.
Within minutes of the accident 112 was alerted and the Guardia Civil and firemen were despatched, together with an ambulance. However, such was the nature of the accident that there was nothing that the ambulance crew could do for him and the coroner was informed.
This very week the Public Prosecutor’s office warned that the present economic situation had increased the number of work-related deaths in the province of Jaén during 2013. That is to say that workers are stressed out by the possibility of losing employment and make careless errors.
