Roadworks for Calle Manila, Almuñécar

calle manila in almuñécar, granadaThe Almuñécar Councillor for Urban Maintenance, José Manuel Fernández met with residents and business owners along Calle Manila. He informed them that work on the street would be “imminent.”

Calle Manila, is the pedestrian street that joins Plaza Madrid to the Paseo Puerta del Mar.

As has recently been the case nearby in the Plaza Madrid, the work is about laying improved sewage and mains water pipes.

The problem is that all the rain water that runs down to Plaza de Madrid from the Paseo del Altillo has nowhere to go – what is missing is an evacuation system laid under Calle Manilla.

The trouble is that this street is narrow with businesses on both sides, so the Councillor readily admits that it is going to be “complicated” which translates into “a right pain” for the bars along the street.

The narrowness is not the only problem because the pipes will have to be laid very deep – four or five metres at the Plaza Madrid end.

Although the start date has not been given, the duration of the work is thought to be two months…
