Abandoned Houses Demolished

MOT Derelict House DemolishedMotril locals have long been complaining that some old abandoned building were in danger of collapsing – why didn’t somebody do something about them? Well, now they have.

The Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, ordered one offending structure to be demolished. The said dilapidated house was number 15, Calle Tito Alto.

This wasn’t first abandoned house to go, though because back in May a structure on Calle |Gracia was also demolished. That house, coupled with the previously mentioned one, will soon have two more houses added to their number on Calle Buenavista.

“With these four demolitions we have no more in the execution stage in Motril,” explained the Mayor, who pointed out, however, that there are 40 other houses which might be processed in this fashion but that the process entails a long, drawn out trail of paperwork.

Of course, the owners have to be contacted to urge them to do it themselves, and in the majority of cases, that’s what they do, but sometimes the owners either can’t be contacted or are not cooperative, which is where the Town Hall has to step in.
