The chosen route was along the historic Acequias del Poqueira, guided by Enrique Garín, one of the club’s guides and founders.
The said irrigation channels take their water supply from the Río Mulhacén, bringing it down to la Tahá de Pitres, irrigating lots of agricultural land along the way.
“It was a gently descending trail until we ran into mist which gave the excursion a sort of magical touch. From time to time the mist pulled itself aside revealing the precious Picos del Sabinar and the Loma Púa. We very occasionally saw the impressive Mulhacén and Veleta Peaks” recalled Enrique.
Whilst the weather conditions impaired the views, the absence of strong sunshine made the ascent to the Cortijo de Las Tomas at 2,100 metros easier going.
Finally the group reached Capileira, exhausted but fulfilled.
