The Asociación de Hosteleros, Restauradores, Pubs y Discotecas de Almuñécar-La Herradura considers them as “false” medieval fairs, run by outside companies that don’t pay local taxes and are consequently “unfair competition.”
The association says that figures for July are down and next month the Town Hall is going to authorize, yet again, a Feria de Día.
Last year this Day Fair was set up virtually next to the terrace tables of existing restaurants.
Friday Market square where the summer fair is held is the largest parking area in Almuñécar, meaning that it will be closed to parking for the first three weeks of August to accommodate the yearly fair, even though it only lasts one week.
