We had our usual marquee at Residents’ Day in the Plaza España earlier this month and on a boiling hot day we enjoyed meeting lots of people at our tombola stall.

Our Poppy Appeal organiser, Dorothy Allen, was as always dressed for the occasion and her enthusiasm and commitment to the Legion were evident. All her efforts produced a wonderful array of prizes and netted us over 300 euros, and combined with the proceeds from a tombola at the Chapel Bar in Nerja the evening before, brought in over 450 euros – a handsome sum for a very worthy cause.

Our grateful thanks go to all the businesses and donors who contributed items for the stall, they are very much appreciated.

St George’s Day was celebrated at the monthly lunch at Hotel Al Andalus in Maro and Vice Chairman Nick’s rendition of the story of St George brought many a smile and contributed to a most enjoyable afternoon.

We partook of a very tasty meal with convivial company, as always well looked after by Petra and her staff. Peggy and Charlie did the raffle with many super prizes and as it was our closest lunch to Easter, we had an Easter-bonnet parade with many beautiful and ‘interesting’ creations. Judy, Sue and Godfrey were the worthy winners.

Since then, we have had our monthly lunch at Restaurante Peña Parda in La Herradura, and although the numbers were down this month, it was a fun day, with stand-up, sit-down bingo by Bruce and Joan, a great raffle organised by Mike and Kate with super prizes.

A big ‘thank you’ to all of you who put in the effort and make these events such good fun and so worthwhile – and to all of you who attend; without you all we would not be able to do the good work we do for the Legion.
