Mayor of Itrabo Faces Barring

SAL Itrabo Townhall OnLThe Mayor of Itrabo, Jesús Carrascosa, stands accused of not lifting a finger to prevent the illegal construction of cortijos.

The Public Prosecutor is recommending that he be barred for eight years from holding public office.

The original recommendation was for ten years, but the Public Prosecutor reduced it by two years. And that’s not the only change, because he was originally gunning for Vice Mayor, the Municipal Clerk, the Councillor for Urban Development and even the village municipal policeman.

The Mayor allegedly failed to act against a total of 22 illegal homes. In fact, ever since he came to power in 2007, this kind of illegal construction has proliferated within the municipal confines.

The Defence Lawyer claims that as soon as these illegal buildings were pointed out to the Mayor, he acted with “alacrity and diligence.” In other words, the Town Hall did what was within its power to do, once it was aware of the irregularities.
