Three thieves found themselves cornered on Playa San Cristóbal in Almuñécar after stealing a slot machine from a restaurant in a restaurant. The Guardia had come across the three men on the said beach, wrestling with the slot machine, trying to break it open. When the police thoughtfully pointed out their presence, one actually managed to escape, heading into town.

The other however decided that the water was their best line of escape, but one thing is bathing suitably attired in a warm summer sea and another is floundering around, fully dressed in a chilly, early spring sea.

One of them splashed around, despondently, a suitable distance from the beach for a moment before returning the amused Guardia Civil policemen to turn himself in, but the other, made of sterner stuff, struck out to the outer rock of the Peñon del Santo, only to be picked up by the GC patrol launch based in Motril, which had been summoned for the purpose of prizing him off.
