Free Wi-Fi in Almuñécar?

ALM Majuelo OnLThe Almuñécar Town Hall intends to set up free Wi-Fi coverage in several public spaces around town. The service would be up and running before the summer, said the Mayor.

Mayor Trinidad Herrera considers it important that Almuñécar can offer its visitors this kind of service. “Times are changing,” she said, “at a dizzy pace,” so much so that emails and Internet access have become a necessity, she considers.

Putting into being such free coverage is full of legal pitfalls, with neighbouring towns having already fallen into some with the major Internet service providers. “We can get around this because we know exactly how the law works in this communications area,” she said

A pilot service will be established in Castillo de San Miguel, Parque El Majuelo, Plaza de la Constitución, Paseo del Altillo or Plaza Nueva, in La Herradura. Depending how this pilot service works out, it will be extended to other ‘hot points.’

If we can process all the necessary paperwork in time we are hoping to have it up and running for San Juan,” she said.
