National-level theatre and other shows will be coming to Salobreña now that it has been included within the Circuito Nacional de Artes Escénicas, Platea.
All told, ten events including plays, dances and a circus, will be held in the towns auditorium.
Platea is a national-level programme, providing shows for 200 municipalities all over Spain – remember that Spain has just over 8,000 municipalities, so its a select club. In fact, Salobreña is the only municipality included in the province apart from the city of Granada itself.
Basically, how it works in the the Instituto Nacional de Artes Esecénicas makes up the difference between the show’s fees and the amount taken on the door: towns the size of Salobreña, for example, would struggle to be able to afford the price tag of a top national act, whilst at the same time, a theatre company probably couldn’t risk agreeing to settle for just the takings at the door, which is where the aforementioned. INAEM steps in.
Anyway, there’ll be something every month as from April.
