Whilst this news might be ‘old hat’ in Nerja and just across the border in Almuñécar, it serves as a warning to bar owners further afield.
A well known bar in Nerja had a visit from the police (attached to the Junta de Andalucia) on their bingo night… Before you could say, “What would you like to drink, Gentlemen,” the bingo takings, all bingo material, including DVD’s were confiscated. The police walked away with nearly 9,000 bingo cards, for example.
There were forty bingo players participating when the police arrived, which was apparently the minimum for the pub to host an afternoon game during the week.
Amongst the other material removed were two TV’s, which were used to screen the DVD-based games, plus 179 euros in ‘illicit takings.’
Although this bust occurred over on the Málaga side of the provincial border, where a total of six establishments have received similar visits, pubs where Bingo Nights are held in our province of Granada are probably in the sights of the Junta – and let’s face it; bingo nights are very popular in Brit bars, all along the Costa Tropical and inland.
So, there you have it folks, the next time that somebody shouts “Bingo!” at your local, it could be the police as they walk in…
