The Asociación de Vecinos de La Garnatilla had their knees up over bowls of fennel stew – a regional culinary favourite on the first Sunday of March. The Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, and other Town-Council bigwigs were invited and present.
All told, about 400 people enjoyed this get-together, which is held to raise funds for the coming village fete (fiestas patronales).
In fact, the neighbour association organises a meal on the first Sunday of every month for this purpose.
The Mayor is convinced that precisely because of these party lunches, life is being breathed back into the hamlet and old abandoned houses are being done up again as people move back.
So now you know: if you want a plate of good traditional grub at a very cheap price and at the same time get to know this tiny hamlet just up from the Puntalón crossroads, Motril, you now have the excuse and opportunity!
