Growing Pressure Against Anti-Abortion Bill

SPN abortion billIt would appear that the Government has bitten off more that it can chew over its controversial anti-abortion bill.

Not only have all the opposition parties and our European partners denounced this anachronistic bill, but even the gynaecologist who delivered the Prime Minister’s two children has opposed it.

Professor (Dr.) Santiago Dexeus Trías began his reasoning with “This law amounts to a terrifying flashback.” His name heads a manifesto signed by 2,000 professionals in the health field

The manifesto considers that the bill drawn up by the Minister of Justice, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, “infringes the rights of women and erroneously turns abortion into a psychiatric problem.”

“If it’s not broken, why fix it?”
This is the sentiment, expressed by gynaecologist, Martínez Salmeán, referring to the current abortion legislation, which “has reduced the number of abortions in Spain,” he pointed out.

The damning conclusion was that the Government is attempting to pass a law that lacks social demand and solely answers to its own ideological motivations.

The governing party, however, appears to be blinded to all by the power of its massive parliamentary majority, which it uses to smother all objections.
