Almuñécar fireman, Antonio Ramila Azpiazu, died of a massive heart attack, whilst on standby duty, at the age of 59.
Antonio was more commonly known by his nickname, El Vasco, as he came from that part of the country.
It was around six in the evening whilst he was chatting with his colleagues when he began to feel “a bit strange” and within moments he was dead.
Naturally, being surrounded by the fire crew, all trained in First Aid, everything was done to revive him whilst a vehicle was readied to take him to the Medical Centre. However, the doctors there could do no more for him other than to certify his death.
Antonio leaves behind six children.
The Almuñécar firemen carried his coffin at a funeral which had a considerable turnout not only from his colleagues, friends and family, but also from the all the members of Protección Civil
