The Provincial Delegate for the Regional Government, Sandra García, said that she sympathizes especially with those that are trapped, paying a mortgage on an uninhabitable property in danger of collapse.
This statement of support came after a meeting between the Spokesman for those affected, Ricardo Lopez, and the said government official – it is to be remembered that until now, despite desperate pleas for support from the provincial, regional and central administrations, nothing had been heard.
Although the pledge from the Delegate was reassuring, the homeowners obviously expected more from the Junta; i.e., funds, but Sr. García said that they could not finance the stabilization of the hillside as the urbanización was private property.
The property owners suggested that the Central-Government department, CEDEX, which lends technical support for public works, could study the situation and draw up a project to stabilize the hillside and the costs involved. The Delegate promised to study the proposal.
As for the legal process, the next court hearing is planned for the 7th of February, after the 8th of January one was cancelled due to technical problems within the courtroom.
