According to the Councillor for Sport, 2014 will be a special year for sports clubs in the Almuñécar municipality, as the princely sum of 93,000 euros has been committed to all the clubs in the local area, after every one of the political parties unanimously approved the pledge from the Municipal Sports Board (PMD).
This grant is to be used for federation competition costs, referees, licences, insurance and events, according to the local Councillor for Sport, Luis Aragón.
Apparently, certain criteria have been applied in order to determine whether a sports club qualified for the subsidy, including: whether there was regular participation in federation competitions; what type of regular training took place outside of the competitions; the organisation of sporting events by the club; and the promotion of local sportsmen and sportswomen with promise.
Councillor Aragón also confirmed that the subsidy set aside for young sports people with the most promise, would be maintained in order to support families when the young athletes are competing in sporting events elsewhere.
Although the quantity could be significantly higher, it sounds like the powers that be may be starting to see the light for Almuñécar’s future.
Finally, Aragon added, “We will continue to invest in sport in the area, as our bet is on Almuñécar becoming a real centre of excellence in sport.”
Let’s just watch this space to see how far they are seriously willing to see this through.
