Gardeners’ Glee

MOT 500 notes OnLMore accustomed to finding dog droppings on municipal lawns and gardens, the town-hall garden maintenance lads had a pleasant surprise one morning… They came across 20,000-euros’ worth of ripped up 500-euro notes in the garden area of Las Explanadas, Motril.

At first they thought they were probably just cheap forgeries; somebody playing around with a photocopier, but no, the notes – or what was left of them – turned out to be bona-fide 500-euro notes.

However, no matter how enthusiastically they tried to rebuild at least one of these ‘Bin Ladens,’ as if they were jigsaws, it turned out to be impossible, so they turned them over the 67 disappointing pieces of bank notes to the Policia Nacional.

The 64,000-dollar question – or better said, the 20,000-euro question – is who ripped such a large amount of money into shreds and scatter them all over the grass of Las Explanadas? The police are examining – optimistically – footage from security cameras in local businesses to see if they can find any clues, but to date, there does not appear to have been any.
