Salobreña Aggravated Car Theft

One supposes that to be a criminal, one must have a pretty low moral code, but some sink even lower in their acts of violence and other criminality.

On Thursday night a 30-year-old Salobreña man demanded his stepfather’s car keys. The man refused, upon which, the stepson, who has previous convictions for violence, knocked the man to to the ground and beat him. With his stepfather suitably subdued the man took the car keys from him and drove off, leaving his victim on the pavement.

The police were called and quickly located the vehicle being driven in the town. A short pursuit ensued, until the offender suddenly abandoned the vehicle and ran off into an area of tall reeds. Officers searched the area and eventually found the man, who was hiding on the ground covered in reeds. He was duly arrested and taken to the police station.

Now, languishing behind bards, he faces charges of robbery with violence and intimidation… they Guardia are also throwing in a few traffic offences as well. Even though the chap didn’t wreck the car or hit anything, he did allegedly drive dangerously, at access speed and ignoring road signs.

The stepfather’s car has been returned and he is recovering from his, painful but non-serious injuries.

Somehow, we don’t think it’s going to be a very rosy Christmas for this particular family.
