A resident of Salobreña obviously owed money to Seguridad Social, so they ended up embargoing his scooter, but that was just the beginning of his problems.
The Guardia Civil had located the scooter and had confiscated it, but much to their surprise and the owner’s dismay, they found a kilo of hashish hidden within it.
The moped owner, a 51-year-old man, has since been arrested.
It all started when the police had gone around to his cortijo with a court order to impound the scooter. It was when the police were checking the chassis number to verify beyond doubt that they had the correct vehicle that they found a ‘suspicious’ bag under the saddle; i.e., where a helmet is normally stored.
Upon opening the bag they found 99 ‘bellotas’ or hashish balls, adding up to a total weight of 1,015 grams.
