According to a report from Radio Salobreña, the Restaurante EL Asador was severely damaged by a fire early yesterday afternoon (Sunday 20th).

This popular meeting place for foreign residents is located just across from the large supermarket and gasoline station on Avenida del Mediterráneo.

First indications indicate a short circuit in the kitchen-extractor fan at 14.45h and from there it spread rapidly gutting the premises. Customers and neighbours helped the firemen out.

Such was the amount of smoke generated that Avenida del Mediterráneo had to be closed to traffic at one point.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt but evidently the damage will be a major blow to its owners as well as a temporary or permanent loss of employment for its staff.
