Gobsmacked!

Incredibly, the national headquarters of the Partido Popular handed over computers required for court evidence with their hard discs removed.

The two computers belonging to Luis Bárcenas, the party Treasurer of the governing party in Madrid, were crucial to the investigation into the possible illegal funding of the Partido Popular and misappropriation of funds.

Sr. Barcenas had provided a pen drive with digital evidence of a Contabilidad B (accounting ledger for undeclared donations and subsequent under-the-table payments to top members of the party) to the judge investigating his undeclared patrimony worth 40-odd million in Swiss bank accounts, amongst other banking locations.

The judge wanted to see the original electronic documents of the copies on the pen drive; i.e., Luis Bárcenas computers in the party headquarters. However, the judge was surprised and dismayed to find that the computers handed in either contained no hard drive or had a new one installed.

It would appear that the governing party had weighed the consequences of its alleged black funding being proved beyond doubt with the judicial consequences of destroying court evidence…
