The volunteer association, Aquaviva has had all its members out cleaning up the litter along the Coto 200 area of Motril to draw people’s attention to the problem.
The association is running a campaign called, “A Clean Countryside is a Beautiful Countryside,” and through practicing what they preach, so to speak, they want to transmit the concept that our countryside is not only ours to enjoy, but also a treasure to protect and hand down to the next generation.
The Chairman of Aquaviva, Antonio Reyes, says that they are trying to get it over that the dumping of building waste and rubbish in general is degrading our natural heritage.
“It shames us, as citizens, to witness what state some of the natural beauty spots are in,” he said, and called upon everybody to participate through the various organisations and collectives that coexist within the municipality.
The organisation obtained litter hoppers and other refuse-collection material from Limdeco, the municipal cleaning company, and set about getting the area cleaned up. They finished of the day with poem recitals from a local poet, as well acoustic music from local musicians.
There are no doubt quite a few foreign residents who not only commend the objective of Aquaviva, but might also be interested in contacting them, which can be done HERE
