Sunday saw the second annual ‘across-the-bay’ swimming competition as part of the Virgen del Carmen fiestas in Salobreña.
This year 200 swimmers participated, amongst the junior participants in the children’s category. The race was between the Peñon and La Caleta, and the Poniente current made things more challenging as it was flowing against the direction of the race.
With the summer influx of visitors to the town, the race took on almost a national and even international flavour, with people from all over Spain and even abroad amongst their numbers.
After the race had concluded the traditional Cervezada (beer-drinking event) was held in the Plaza del Lavadero, so swimmers had a chance to get wet on the inside, as well as the outside.
