Spain received 5.8m foreign tourists during May, giving it the best May figures in history.
The two countries that supply the majority of the tourists are France and the UK, whilst the top destinations are the Balearic Islands, Cataluña, and the autonomous region of Valencia.
On the other hand, national tourism; i.e., Spanish tourists holidaying within the country showed a 50% drop. The Government is encouraging Spaniards to make an effort and support traditional domestic tourist spots by holidaying there… whilst at the same time crippling the average Spaniard’s pockets with higher taxes and lower salaries, of course – ironic to say the least.
