A adult pitbull terrier escaped from his owner and ran amok for six hours during which it bit a child on the face and attacked two other minors. The incident occurred in Toledo.
The 2-year-old child was taken to hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit in the Hospital Virgen de la Salud in Toledo, such was the severity of the injuries done to his face by the animal.
The dog also jumped on two other children before it was finally shot dead by the Policía Municipal.
The incident took place near a park (Parque del Lucero), located near the entrance to the city. The dog had escaped from the owner’s grasp and ran directly at a child who was playing in the park at the time. Thanks to the rapid intervention by members of his family and bystanders the animal was prevented from harming the child further, perhaps even killing him.
But this child, whose face was literally ripped apart, was the third victim of the pitbull during his six hours of chaos. Beforehand the dog had already pounced on a 6-year-old girl on the other side of the city. Her parents rushed her to hospital to treat the injuries – no information is available as to where she was bitten.
After running from the park where it attacked the 2-year old, the dog attacked a 12-year-old boy, who was bitten as well, but not to the degree of the 2-year old.
The dog was tracked down in the early hours of the morning by units of both the Policía Nacional and the Policía Municipal. They immediately shot it. The dog had a microchip so the owner was soon located and taken to the police station to make a statement.
