Granada Metro Sued

What Metro? Yes, you’re right – it’s not finished yet… and that’s the problem: potholes caused by the construction work have already caused two road accidents.

About a month ago, a taxi snapped its front axle after hitting a huge pothole and just over two years ago a biker went flying when his motorbike hit one. The damage caused to his precious bike was valued at 838 euros.

In the case of the motorbike accident, which occurred on the Marqués de la Ensenada/Arabail intersection, next to the Neptuno shopping centre, the pothole was 40cms deep and had rebar rods sticking out of it. He tried suing both the City Hall and the Junta de Andalucia, but they both shrugged and suggested suing the construction company, so he took them to court and won.

In the case of the taxi with the snapped axle, the potholes are the ones at Camino de Ronda-Recogidas junction. The taxi driver,José Miguel Jiménez Velasco, lamented, “It’s really incredible that nobody is doing anything about them, even though its evident that they are dangerous.”

The problem appears to be that the construction workers have been digging narrow trenches across the road and then filling them in with earth… without topping them with tarmac. Of course, with the constant passage of vehicles, especially lorries and buses, the earth is pressed down leaving a rut across the road.
