Sunday Hike to Vélez Benaudalla

The Almuñécar hikers’ group is off on a 6-hour jaunt between Pinos del Valle, Ízbor, Los Acebuches and Vélez Benaudalla this Sunday, the 5th of May. This is just one of a series of walks run by Senderismo del Patronato Municipal de Deportes (PMD).

The man withe the 4×4 boots, walk-guide, Enrique Garín, explained they will be passing through little known spots of natural beauty and interest, such as where the huge carob tree stands in Los Acebuches, the pine forests along where the hydro-electrical station’s canal begins and the old mill at Ízbor.

Also included is Vélez Benaudalla’s Nazarí gardens and its castle, as well as its springs – anybody who drives along the old N-323 as it passes below the village will have witness just how much water flows out of the village’s springs.

“We will be able to see centenary olive groves, ageless irrigation systems lined with citric-fruit trees, as well as the Travertino Caves below the Jardín Nazarí de Vélez Benaudalla.

The route is estimated to take between five and six hours with a medium difficulty category, but with no pronounced gradients.
