The Policía Nacional arrested a 35-year-old man in Granada for purchasing a car worth 23,000 euros using somebody else’s Identity.
The man, who has a criminal record for similar activities, handed over the ID card, salary details. bank account details and other personal information to the car dealer in Málaga – the victim was a woman, also from the city.
The woman first became aware of what was happening when she started to receive letters from a bank saying that she had defaulted on credit payments. She immediately went to the police and explained that she had never purchased the said car.
How, you might ask, could a man use a woman’s ID without being rumbled? The answer is that he had changed the photo and first name, leaving the rest of the information intact.
By the time that the police tracked the car down, it had already been through three new owners, all of whom had bought it in good faith, at a bargain price, obviously.
