The Motril Policía Local have been busy destroying 6,000 items that were confiscated during 2012, which accounts for half of the yearly total.
More than half of these items were CD’s and DVD’s (3,282), followed by 2,489 items of clothing and accessories with fake brand names.
The Councillor for Citizen Safety, Manuel Ballesteros, explained that they normally carry out two operations for the destruction of confiscated items a year. He wasn’t short on praise for his own department, saying that they were “implacable” in the pursuit of their task!
Editorial Note: Whenever we cover an article of this kind, my memory is drawn back to witnessing the municipal steamroller repeatedly passing over counterfeit sunglasses and on each pass leaving them intact… In the end, a policeman stamped them into submission. Nevertheless, if you’re ever tempted into buying such sunglasses, they’re guaranteed to fall apart before a month is out.
