Bishops Link Gay Marriage to Natal Decline

The general decline in the birth rate across Europe, according to Spanish bishops, is down to gay marriages. The General Secretary of the Episcopal Conference (council of bishops), Juan Antonio Martínez Camino, was intense in his condemnation of such social unions.

But they’re not alone, because conservative, Minister of the Interior, Jorge Fernández Díaz, considers that gay marriages “do not guarantee the continuity of the species.” He was not backed in his stance by any of his fellow party members, however.

Minister Fernández Díaz insisted on his right to disagree: “It is my duty to obey the law, which I do, but I have the democratic right to disagree with the law, which is what I am doing, but with respect towards others, “he explained in the corridors of the Senate building.

He did, however, avoid responding to questions as to his opinion on the deluge of criticism received for his comments, including from the ranks of his own party.

The Bishop, in the meantime, considers that Spanish laws are “seriously unjust.” He believes that, “There is a kind of destruction of [the institution of] Marriage through legal channels; of Marriage as specified as the union between a man and a woman.”
